The Carthouse Cinema
The building 'shell' of the Carthouse is now complete! The Carthouse is an old Oxen Park village barn, restored to its original pitched-roof form. The Club is pursuing funding opportunities to allow it to fit out the building as a community cinema. The aim is to provide a big screen, with good picture and sound quality, and to accommodate around 30 to 40 people in comfort, furnished with carpets, armchairs and settees to provide a warm, relaxing and sociable atmosphere.
The current plan is for the club to lease the property from the owner (Carol McNeill who is also our club secretary) and both Carol and OPCC have spent a lot of time and effort in trying to secure funding for the development. Bids were submitted to Defra and UK Film Council last year, and we came very close to being successful with Defra. Although our bids were well received and fulfilled all the necessary criteria, we unfortunately lost out to other projects which were seen to be more cost-effective. An OPCC funding sub-committee has been formed to concentrate efforts on future bidding opportunities. |
